Chandrababu Naidu’s role in turning the Telugu Desam Party into a well-structured party is widely known. From 1983 when he joined TDP till 1989, he completely devoted himself to the party affairs. He would go early in the morning to the party office, Telugu Vijayam, at Gandipet and return only in the evening. Naidu was credited with providing orientation programmes to nearly one hundred thousand members on the party’s policies across the state in these camps. He was already thinking ahead when in 1985 he talked about ‘a computer system which will have data on the membership profile available to the chief minister at the touch of a button’. This picture is from his Gandipet days.
