Microsoft co-founder, American billionaire and philanthropist, Bill Gates, has called for making agriculture profitable with fair doses of technology and innovation helping the small holder farmer prosper. Farmer in a remote area should have access to information about rates prevailing, he stressed.

“When I say agriculture transformation I mean a shift from agriculture based merely on subsistence into one that is run like a business. It is efficient, profitable and meets the needs of producers and consumers,” he said addressing a huge gathering of agriculture scientists many countries at the valedictory of AP Agri-Tech Summit–2017 at APIIC grounds in the port city of Visakhapatnam on Friday.

He pointed out that 50 percent of India population is dependent on agriculture and 50 percent of the population is malnourished. “That is why investment in agriculture and health are top priority of our Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,” he said.
